THE BATTLE FOR SUPREMACY

The battle for points in K2.5 million, Manchester Motors Mechanical Centre Blantyre District Under-20 inaugural football cup has reached a critical stage as 15  teams are battering for the title.

The cup was launched in Blantyre at the Kamuzu stadium, and in the opening match, Ntopwa FC defeated Manchester motors FC 2-1.

The teams that are participating are Manchester Motors FC, Nyasa Big Bullets Youth, Wanderers Youth, Agubala FC, Ntopwa FC, Bangwe United, Tigers Youth, Yizo Yizo Warriors , Soche Madrid,  Future Stars, Grifin Young Stars, Blantyre United, Alphasoft Academy, CC Stars and Ndirande Stars.

The league’s general secretary Joel Magola said they were hopeful the cup would help them to unearth more talent.

“Our core duty is to help in identifying and nurturing talent. We feel this cup is the right platform to help us achieve our goals,” Magola said.

Nyasa Big Bullets Youth coach Autry Kalulu has promise to deliver free flowing football as his team chase for the title.

“Our boys are ready for this cup, and every player knows how it is important for the team to win the cup’’, said Kalulu.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Under-20 National Football Team Coach Patrick Mabedi has hailed the development, saying this will help the players to get exposed and to develop.

“As Malawi Under 20 coach I have to follow such competitions because I can easily follow the performance of the players. Besides that, I feel my presence is also a motivation to the participating teams,” said Mabedi.

The champion of the Manchester Motor Mechanical Centre will cart home K500,000 with runners up getting K200,000.
