All set for Fam Polls in Mzuzu
Football Association of Malawi, Electoral Committee chairperson James Masumbu, has said all is set for FAM Elective General Assembly scheduled tomorrow 16 December 2023 at Sunbird Mzuzu.
According to Masumbu everything will be done in
accordance with the laws and candidates, delegates will strive for peaceful and
non-violent elections.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Committee has also
advised contestants to accept any outcome of the elections saying all the
candidates which will try to start violence will face the consequences.
Meanwhile Police in the Northern region have promised
tight security ahead of the Polls considering the violent incidents that
happened in previous FAM elections such as in 2015 and 2019 elections.
The incumbent FAM President, Walter Nyamilandu will go
head-to-head against Super league of Malawi President, Fleetwood Haiya for the
position of FAM President.
However, the Chairperson of the Northern Region
Football Association, Dr. Khonje and the current FAM second vice president
Othaniel Hara will tussle for the position of Second vice president.
Daud Mtanthiko, Chancy Gondwe, Patrick Kapenga,
Bernard Harawa, Raphael Humba, Chimango Munthali and Muhammad Selemani will
fight for three slots in the Executive Member committee for the Association.
Women Member Position will be contested by Felister
Dossi and Mervis Mangulenje.
During the 2019 elections, Walter Nyamilandu defeated his
former vice-president, James Mwenda.
